About the Exhibition …..
The ZaaZaaaa & Friends collective show is the debut exhibition of To Kwa Wan-based creative studio ‘ZaaZaaaa Collective’. The show poses as a ‘creative update’ to the public, in the form of a 9-day alternative gathering.
It features a multitude of works exhibiting the members’ observations, reflections, and re-iterations of experiences shared at the studio throughout the past year. It aims to stand as an open-ended ‘work in progress’ that emphasizes the collective’s formless and incomplete nature.
The members will present pieces that reflect the studio’s philosophy of celebrating curiosity, while cherishing the seemingly ‘trivial’ aspects of their day-to-day lives. Their separate-yet-connected methodologies demonstrate the variety of creative forces housed within the studio.
The show intends to visualize the messy reality of collaboration as a means of suggestion rather than a subversion of standard gallery practices.
About the Collective ……
ZaaZaaaa is a collective of 9 artists based in Hong Kong, separated by their independent practices, yet connected by their shared enthusiasm for community, creativity, and fresh perspectives. What started as a passionate group of friends, manifested into a thriving space, housing a unique variety of facilities, such as a wood workshop, b&w and color darkroom, and photo studio.
At its core, ZaaZaaaa is interested in encouraging and harnessing the spirit of intuitive creation, and trusting the guidance of one's own ethos.

Kelly Hebestreit is a photographer and installation artist.
Born in Germany, she spent her core years in Hong Kong before relocating to multiple cities including Tokyo and Los Angeles. She currently resides in Hong Kong. Focusing primarily on portraiture and documentary images, she is particularly drawn to subjects that are dynamic yet unconventional. Her love for the medium stems from an interest in using photography as a means of manipulating and glorifying the spaces she occupies. Her work often features abstract compositions in decaying dream-like landscapes, crafting bold interpretations of her own reality.
In her artistic practice she focuses primarily on the creation of installations, exploring the emotional dynamic between the audience and the private spectacle. Her self-published zine ‘Satellite’ (2021) features photographs taken during the artist’s first visit to Joshua Tree in the summer of 2020. She exhibited her work in a solo-show of the same name, replicating the quiet doom of the desert by showcasing a variety of photography, sculpture, sound design and mixed media pieces.
Elton Fung AKA Freedomgum is a photographer and videographer.
Born and raised in Hong Kong, he graduated from University of Reading studying Building Surveying (BsC). What started out as a casual hobby documenting flickerings of daily life, skating and friends, blossomed into an ‘accidental’ career as a multi-talented photographer and videographer. His work is boundless, covering a broad visual spectrum. Finding inspiration everywhere, his portfolio is an extensive visual representation of subjects and narratives. He is particularly interested in documenting both the mundane as well as the bizarre and surreal. Moreover, his video work presents an alternative extension of his still work, offering a deeper dive into his vision.
His passion extends to his love for the medium of photography publications. His archive project ‘SGUM Archive’, highlights his extensive collection of fashion, fine art and skate books, magazines, stickers, and other forms of printed media.
