Oddities. Neglected Art of Design
Presented by Oddity Studio
02 - 07.05.2024
Designers are not seen as artists, however we create art in our process.
The exhibition invites you to take another look at the initial trials and errors created during the creative process. These drafts are often left neglected, rejected, forgotten and scrapped. And yet they are pure visual expressions conveying underlying ideas, created to drive inspiration and desire to see more. An applied art that can not be applied, design liberated from its commercial value.
We tend to discard it. What if we don’t? What if incomplete sketches have more depth then the celebrated result of the process? You may see them as unsuccessful logos, abstract art, loved dead, or something that youdo and neglect as well.

Artist Statement:
I am fascinated to look back at manifestations of early discovery stages of each commissioned project. Initial trials and sketches have appealing purity in their incomplete and near useless state. They do exist only to convey underlying idea, they drive inspiration and desire to see more.
These drafts live for a brief moment, they are presented once and then either rejected to be left behind or undergo thousands of changes to become applied art.
These neglected oddities always sadden me — they are the core of my practice, they are the reason why my commercially released work shines. With this exhibition I am taking a turn away from celebrated work I am already known for and pull neglected art of design out from the darkness into limelight instead for an hour of well deserved glory.
You may view these artworks as unsuccessful logos, conceptual abstract art, behind the scenes, loved dead, all at once, or something that you do and neglect as well.
I hope this exhibition will blur established line between design and art, and will inspire others to practice design as art.
